Re: Energy Conservation.
Without understanding your system it would be difficult to say. It seems slightly unusual that you require two drives to start and only one to run. If you want a detailed response you probably need someone to have a proper look at it.

In other words employ a consultant experienced in belt conveyors. ■
Energy Conservation
Dear Experts,
This is with refference to the topic posted earlier
We are having horizontal long conveyor total length-960Mtrs. with reversible running i.e. yard conveyor provided with drive units at both ends (one motor is pushing & other is pulling conveyor)(160Kw motor &gear box SBN-220 at each end) equipped with horizontal gravity take-up
The rated capacity of the belt is 750 Mt/Hr.The each motor was drawing current up to 80 Amps in both directions on full load.
As there was no difference in current of belt with Load and No-load, we are planning to switch OFF one motor for energy conservation .We have developed a electrical scheme such that both motors will be in service for starting of conveyor and after three minutes pushing end motor is disconnected electrically (i.e. motor stopped) & full load of conveyor is on pulling end motor. We have implemented this scheme & no change in pulling end motor current is observed i.e.80Amps..
I would like to know whether this will provide any damage to the equipment in long life.
Please guide me how it will affect the belt conveyor ■
Re: Energy Conservation.
There is more to the problem than the information provided.
The current is noted, though not the voltage (hence we cannot have a guess of PF and efficiency and hence mechanical power). Assuming 415 V = (say) 220 FLA.
From this far away perspective (could be wrong) it seems unusual to require two motors for starting and yet only one for running.
Someone with sufficient knowledge requires the complete story to confirm.

Lyle ■
Re: Energy Conservation.
Why is it so difficult for you to hire an expert?
I see. As long as we are stupid enough to work for free, then do take advantage. ■

Now and then some things have just got to be said! ■
Energy Conservation.
we are having a bidirectional yard conveyor for stacking & reclaiming mode, this belt is having dual drive (AC induction)160Kw.each located at both ends. For energy conservation we are planning to switch OFF one motor for each stcking & reclaiming mode,Both motors will be in service during Starting of Belt. Please guide us whether this will work? ■
