Conveyor load/unload

A conveyor is used to transport object between 2 points. Usually the displacement is linear. A belt conveyor is a loop, so there is a linear portion, and 2 circular portions at the 2 ends.

I know for some applications, the objects conveyed will stay on the conveyor until it "drops" off due to gravity, when it hit the end of the belt.

But there are other applications where the object is removed from the conveyor before it reaches the end.

Can you give me some specific applications for those 2 cases?

Thanks

The use of a tripper to divert flow of a conveyor or a material plow.

This configuation is often used in the foundry industry to fill multiple mold machines from one belt. Also used in bagging operations to fill baggers. The belt is flattened and a v-plow or diagonal plow is used to remove material off the side of the belt. Not always the cleanest, but usually the least expensive method for discharging material mid-point along a belt.

unclehan,

Since you are referring to an object being removed from the conveyor system, I presume that you are mainly interested in package conveyor systems.

Typically, the belt carries packages (boxes, mail, other individual products) forward and diverter arms are used to push the item off the belt to a chute or another conveyor at the desired point(s). Material travelling to the end of the primary conveyor is not diverted and is transferred to the end chute or unload point.

Typically, this type of conveyor arrangement is used in general manufacturing, distribution centers, and sortation facilities.

Dear Mr. unclehan.

You are referring to object conveying or package conveying. You want to have two examples where such package is getting removed before it reaches to conveyor head pulley. Following are some of the examples :

1) You can see the baggage conveying at the airport. Here you will find some conveyors where bags are being picked up manually before they reach the conveyor terminal pulley.

2) You can visit some cement plant or sugar plant where bags are often removed by bag-diverters before they reach the terminal pulley.

3) If you happen to have nearby any good plant manufacturing soap, you will find soaps are being taken away from the conveyor by many devices before they reach the conveyor terminal pulley.

Hello Unclehan

The following available methods come to mind to remove material from a conveyor where you want it:

- Terminal pulley

- Both terminal pulleys i.e. reversible conveyor

- Terminal pulley with moving head to a limited range of positions

- Fixed tripper

- Travelling tripper

- Belt plough (not preferred)

- Belt tipping (tilt carry belt with one flat roller to 45 degrees at desired discharge point(s) along conveyor)

- Shuttle the whole conveyor on wheels
