Belt conveyor 12"

Hi, I have to design rubber belt conveyor 20 TPH for wet sand. Belt width-12”, length-10’, trough - 35º .Can I find a belt with troughability required, appropriate idlers, or may be I can use sheet metal trough with profile 35º? May be better to use side wall conveyor belt? Thank you.

Dear Mr. Roman,

In my openion you may go for vibrating feeder of 3000mm long instead.

A flat belt, with full length skirts, for the less than 10 ft after you transfer sand on to belt is your best way.

Your worry in using a 35 degree ider is valid.

Hi Roman,

Viable options include:

1) Flat belt with full-length skirts. Problem here is with spillage potential under the skirting.

2) Corrugated Sidewall Belt. Problem here is with cleaning and, therefore, carry-over.

3) Multi-Fold belt system. Capital cost could be an issue, but less expensive than pipe belt and HAC (belt on belt) systems and easier to maintain.

4) Serpintex conveyor system. Problem here is with cleaning and carry-over.

5) Profiled flat belt (with raised Vanner or wedge edges). Problem here is with cleaning - although easier than with Serpintex and Corrugated Sidewall.

Dear Mr. Roman,

You may think of using 400 mm wide belt on 2-roll 10 degree trough or 3-roll 15 degree trough carrying idlers, belt speed 0.25 mps, skirt full length and net inside width approximately 200 mm. The capacity you will get = 0.2 x 0.1 x 0.25 x 3600 x 1.6 = 28.8 mtph. Make necessary refinement in speed and other parameters to suit your requirements.

It is not advisable to have 35 deg trough idlers for narrow belt width like 300 mm or 400 mm.

There are some modular conveyors available such as the Sanki brand (I'm sure there are others too). They seem to have various distributors.

Although they are somewhat associated with package moving, I've seen them stand up to some harsh treatment in wet and dirty environments.

Hello Roman

For such a light duty you can use a low class belt.. say class 250/3 ply.

To be practical, I never use less than 500mm wide, and class 250/3 will trough OK in 35 degrees idlers.

No need for skirts, as your 20 t/h will be a narrow band of sand along the centre-line of the belt.

Don't go too slow as your reducer ratio will go up and make the drive a bit costly. For example you can use a 380mm pulley with a standard 30 to 1 reducer and run at 1m/sec

Go easy on the top cover, as it it this that will stop it troughing if too thick.

Have fun with your baby

Indeed a vibrating feeder, or better still a vibrating pipe conveyor would be good for the application, as long as the material is suitable.

In this way, spillage is totally eliminated, as the vibrating pipe is totally enclosed.
