Improving Impact Crusher Performance

Posted in: , on 13. Aug. 2010 - 10:11

Dear Gentlemen;

I'm looking for some help from impact crusher experts.

I'm struggling to improve the performance of impact crusher.

The assignment is to reduce the undersize portion.

The other words, to minimize the portion of fine particle.

Input material is hard, a little brittle, plate-like, and continuously supplied.

The input condition is a constraint. I can't change anyone of them.

As for the speed and diameter of rotor, there is little room for adjustment.

The only condition I can handle is the feature of roter itself.

such as the shape of tooth, gap, round, etc...

If there is a somebody who has experienced this kind of situation,

or knows well about this kind of problems,

please drop me some tips of how to start this problem solving,

and where to start is the most effective way of reducing fine.

Best Regards,

YS OH/Korea

Without even knowing the manufacturers name I don't see how anyone can give you a technical answer. Typically as in Hazmag impacts there are 2 impact plates that can be adjusted for more or less gap to vary the reduction size. Rule of thumb for reduction ratio is 6:1 for best efficiency if you exceed that your process and throughput will suffer. You could also look at adding a 2nd crusher in series with the process.

Your best bet would be to discuss your requirements with the manufacturer of the crusher and have them determine the changes required to meet your request.

Good luck.

Can you give some more details like

material crushed, top size of feed, screen analysis of the product.

Impact crushers are typically used for producing product for feeding grinding mills. Large fraction of fines is a desirable feature.

Dont you just love sedimenatary rock that shatters?!

Dealing with a Spokane crusher breaking shale laden Halite in my case;

the issue becomes one of speed and less speed as the rotor will have a direct effect on the amount of breakage.

The crusher need to be slowed down as it was done in our case with two of them;

The first Spokane required a VFD from Toshiba to solve the issue in 1980-81, as it was purchased as a stock machine with no forethought with the standard equipment pulleys and belts.

I would chat with the Toshiba folks or a supplier of electronics you deal with or have the authority to deal with.

Dear Sirs;

Crusher manufacturer : None (Developed on our own). Each crusher is consisted of a combination of a rotor and a stator.

Material : Plate-like compacted material is continuously fed to the entrance of impact crushers.

The average particle size of crushed product : About 20 mm.

Working temperature of crusher : About 300 degree C.

Developed Your Own Impact Crusher?

With great respect:

whose impactor did you copy?

if you did not copy the proper impactor design for the proper application, you could and probably do as per your post have a NUMBER of issues causing your issues.

Leon was good with the SLOW the HSI down....as the faster you run mr ROTOR, the more the hits , the finer the product produced and so on.

CURTAIN ADJUSTMENTS are wildly critical, if they are set too tightly, you will INCREASE FINES production.

many many important factors that can go wrong in your scenario.
