Selection of silo material for PC powder and pellete storage

Posted in: , on 3. Oct. 2005 - 11:42

We have a 04 number cylindrical silo (16m highx 11 m dia- 400 Kl storage capacity) with a conical bottom (SS304) for storage of PC powder.

we would like install more two silo for similar applicaiton.

Out existing silos are very bulky made from SS304 plates and installe don heavy structure and support from conve and shell joint at bottom.

We would like some diffrent installation wich can avoid structure and reduce a weight of the silo.

Is there any better way of storage PC powder.

Any suggestions welcome!!!

The most economical silo construction is that having an L/D ratio of 3:1 or even 4:1.

Also, skirt supported silos are an economical solution that would do away with the heavy structure that you described in your post.

Lastly, I would recommend that the flow properties for the PC products, both pellets and powder, be tested. Incorporating the test results into the design of the new silos will insure mass flow out of the bins and otherwise avoid unforseen flow problems.

My thoughts.

Hi Denis,

Thanks for your valueable inputs. further to our requirement. we are thinking to install corugated bolted sheet silo on load cell. is there any impact of high L/D ratio on accurate measurement beacause of hight.

Can we store PC pelletes in SS304 corrugated bolted silo? becasue we don't have experiance to store PC pellets in corugated silo.

thanks & Regards,

Dear Sir,

One way of reducing the weight of the silo structure is to build the cylinder all the way down to the bearing slab. This is of particular interest should your silo happen to be built in a seismic area. Reclaiming of the various product can be achieved efficiently by a vibrating floor VIBRAFLOOR, say on a 10° slope depending on the throughput required.

You may view typical applications of VIBRAFLOOR on the site www.silexport.com
