Shaker Welding

I know that you recommend mechanical connections when building shakers, but it seems almost impossible to build a steel structure without any welding. Does anyone have any recommendations on what wire to use for welding shakers (or any high vibration/high shock loading application)? Most of our welding is flux core mig welding with an additional sheilding gas.

I took the liberty of calling my old employer who builds about 40-50 big vibrating screens a month.

They actually weld fairly extensively on their bodies........all of the support members say on a 5x16 up to 8x24 vibrating screen bodies have 6" diameter cross pipe supports welded to heavy channel angle supports in the side and ends of the frames.

They actually JIG WELD.......to keep the weldments absolutely plus minus SQUARE. Will use stress relieve ovens or run over the completely welded assembly with a TIGER TORCH after to RELIEVE the welds and avoid WARPAGE or unsquareness caused by welding.

For the last 70 years of so........they used A70-18 LOW HYDROGEN ROD...apparently creates a little stronger weld.

NOW, they just switched to METAL SHIELD MC-6 52 thousands thick wire, all purpose, better when welding out of a proper welding position apparently.

hope this helps.

Thank you George. We usually use 70-18's for almost everything. Do you what temperature is required to relieve the stress from the welds?
