Conveying Aluminum Flake with Pneumatic Vacuum System

Posted in: , on 16. Apr. 2015 - 17:58

Good morning,

It would be greatly appreciated if someone can help me with this request.

I would like to vacuum aluminum flake (30 micron in size) from supplier 200L drum to a reciever system where i can discharge to a loss in weight feeder and then discharge to a final hopper. My goal is to keep the process enclosed to minimize dust and manual weighing of aluminum by hand generated too much dust.

Aluminum flake can be explosive if the right amount of dust concentration is suspended in the air, thus i would prefered to convey using nitrogen. I think designing a close loop vacuum system where my pickup point is a drum might be challenging. Has anyone experienced with conveying aluminum powder/flake using nitrogen. If you can provide some guidance or recommend a manufacturer that would be able to help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Designing a closed loop dense phase conveying system is fairly standard. Several vendors have this expertise. I can help you in this design if this is needed.

You can use any conveyer such as bucket elevator , vacuum conveyer ,screw conveyer ,etc... with nitrogen protected . export@huaxiadrying.com

There is a lot you're not telling us which is quite usual in these forums, but it keeps some of us amused.

"Discharge to a loss in weight feeder and then into a final hopper." Why not just weigh the full and empty bin?

Manual weighing ""by hand"" causes too much dust so you need to take precautions at that stage. Try a glove box application. Purging with nitrogen sounds rather elaborate. Where did the drums come from? Are they purged previously? What happens to the stuff after the final hopper in terms of atmosphere?

"Aluminium flake can be explosive..." means that it is explosive. If your drums are carried in Europe then they must meet ADC regulations. So see what your carrier does. If you aren't in Europe there are still regulations in force in most of the less developed world.
