Regarding motor selection for rapid load variation conditions

Posted in: , on 29. Jun. 2006 - 17:58

HI PROFESSIONALS ,

I HAVE STUCK SOMEWHERE AND NEED YOUR HELP.

LOAD ON MY COMPRESSORS ARE VARING FROM 100% TO 35% IN A CYCLE OF 3 MINUTES . MOTOR REQUIREMENT FOR MY COMPRESSORS ARE OF HT TYPE WHICH IF I AM RIGHT CANNOT WORK ON LOADS LESSOR THAN 50% EFFICIENTLY .

CAN ANYBODY SUGGEST ME ANY SOLUTION

WITH REGARDS

You should check the condition of your compressors intercoolers and the oil seperators and the condition of the motors as far as meg ohms resistance also you should check the line voltage coming into your compressors as this is a deciding factor as well

I would also seriously consider increasing compressed air storage to balance the loads by adding capacity as it sounds like your compressed air system is over loaded. the larger storage will help that. and will create a balanced demand on your compressed air system.

be sure to check those intercoolers as they will explode if they are plugged.

Hello Sachin

You Can try Crane Duty motors which has got capability to with stand load fluctuations for short time durations.Consult Motor Manufacturer catalog for selection with proper duty cycle

Dear Sachin,

Please cheque if the capacities are relevant.

If you are stopping the motors, please take into consideration, that in case of some high capacity motors you should wait 10 min befor starting again.

If you have variable load, you must consider also variable speed motors. Please contact immediately a motor fabrication company.

Thanks

Dr Erguns suggestion seems to be in line.A softstart circuitarty may be useful BUT for HT Motor??

Pl check soft start Manufacturer

Electics are a bit like hydraulics. You only talk electrics to hide the real problem in terminolgy which you hope nobody else understands ie bullshit. Buy bigger tankls !!

Your application seems to be for single tank dense phase conyeying system for powder. The pressure peaks at the start of pumping cycle and reduces as tank empties.

Your buffer compressed air tank is sized for the the operation and compressor unloader valves operate in each cycle. Increasing buffer willnot help as pressure requirement varies ineach cycle.

You have to live with existing motor. Efficiency may be low at lower power demand, but you are still operating within motor operating parameters.
