Teus had a memorable formula for unloading time(rate) versus DWT which he deserves the credit for and I will not repeat.
I myself hold the view that % of design capacity is irrelevant. What is needed is capacity, full stop.
What is the point of buying a small machine and then blaming the operators when the thing doesn't perform?
Hold cleaning is not the same thing as trimming: how many Bobcats do you propose to employ? ■

Actual Handling Capacity against Design Capacity
Dear All,
What is optimum discharge rate for soyabean using 2 Level luffing cranes from starting of discharging to completion of discharging for a Panamax vsl. Cargo goes to conveyor belt. Is 70% of design capacity reasonable? The start to end of discharging will include hold cleaning as well otherwise known as trimming.
