Windmöller & Hölscher Presents

EASY-CONTROL for FFS Bagging Lines at ACHEMA

With the new user interface, W&H gives the starting signal for inclusion of FFS bagging technology in the subject "Packaging 4.0" or in the "Internet of Things", as the networking of production machinery is recognized in an international context.

This year, Windmöller & Hölscher presents the TOPAS SL bagging machine at ACHEMA for the first time. The company reports a high level of acceptance of the fundamentally reworked version of the versatile and successful TOPAS series in the market. With more than 2,600 bags per hour, the TOPAS SL is at the global forefront in terms of bagging output - an argument that is convincing a growing number of customers.

The central topic of W&H's ACHEMA presentation this year, however, is the demonstration of the new opportunities that machine-to-machine communication offers for the optimization of bagging operations. On display is the networking of the TOPAS SL with its production environment on the basis of the completely redesigned EASY-CONTROL user interface, which can also be found - with a uniform design in terms of layout, menu structure, color language and symbolism - on the downstream PLATINUM layer palletizer. At ACHEMA the functionality of the palletizer is shown at a fully functional operator terminal, so that visitors can explore the potential of the user interface themselves at both terminals. EASY-CONTROL presents itself as a well laid-out and intuitively operable user interface with a modern look. The network structure, in which, in addition to TOPAS SL and PLATINUM, the ARGON stretch-hood line can be incorporated, ensures that all relevant data, including that of the other machine(s), can be called up from each EASY-CONTROL operator terminal of the bagging line. This saves a lot of back and forth and also time, since information is available everywhere. As a result, avoidable losses in production due to unnoticed machine downtimes are a thing of the past.

Of particular interest is the logbook function, which offers an extensive view of the past production activity. Production data and events (e.g. the frequency of alerts) are not only recorded but can also be filtered according to various criteria, displayed graphically and evaluated in a targeted manner, in order to carry out comparisons, weak point analyses or other evaluations.

Furthermore, current production data and a perspective on future events, such as e.g. the current bagging output, the progress of an order, the status of a fault, a pending roll or pallet change and much more, are also retrievable from all machines of the bagging line with the aid of commercially available mobile end devices. This allows the operator to keep track of the status of the line at all times, even when he is performing tasks at some distance away from the operator terminals. The content of the EASY-CONTROL software available until now provides the basis for a wide variety of other applications.
