Applied DEM announces release of Bulk Flow Analyst™ version 14, now supporting the processing of DEM simulations on machines with multiple cores

March 11, 2014 – Lakewood, CO, USAApplied DEM, one of the first engineering companies to develop and market Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulation tools, announced today the release of Bulk Flow Analyst™ v.14. Bulk Flow Analyst™ 14 now supports processing on multiple cores, better leveraging the computing power available in many engineering departments.

To address the addition of multi-core processing capability, Applied DEM has modified the licensing options available to users. Users now purchase a license based on the size of the problems they expect to encounter where the size is based on a predicted number of particles existing in the system concurrently, not the number of cores or processors on the computer. This means that users are free to upgrade their computer without having to upgrade their software, assuming that the size of the problems doesn’t change.

Additionally, feature limits have been removed from Version 14, meaning that all users now have access to simulate with features such as force analysis, moving boundaries, and cohesive particles.

Version 14 is a follow-up to the recent release of BFA v.13, the world’s first DEM solution to be integrated with the cloud for the processing of DEM simulations using Applied DEM’s DEMcloud™ service. Between the ability to process simulations using their exclusive DEMcloud™ service and the ability to process simulations locally using multiple cores, Version 14 is positioned to be the fastest and most-flexible Bulk Flow Analyst™ yet. Version 14 offers a free license to users who will perform their commercial or research-level simulations exclusively on the DEMcloud™.
