October 1st and 2nd, 2009

Trouble-free Continuous Operation in Coal-fired Power Plants

Event Organized by “Haus der Technik” in Cologne

The well-known “Haus der Technik”, a branch office of the Aachen technical university, will organize the seminar titled “Trouble-free continuous operation in coal-fired power plants” from October 1st to October 2nd 2009. The seminar of “HDT” will be headed by Michael W. Rokitta, Dipl. Ing.,Dipl. Kfm., managing director at Kalenborn in Vettelschoss/Germany. This meeting shall give lecturers, plant operators and plant suppliers an opportunity to discuss time-proven solutions for trouble-free operation of power plants.

The following topics have been put on the agenda:

-fundamentals of wear protection technology

-special wear protection measures in coal-grinding mills

-time-tested wear protection materials as well as experience gathered with respect to actions that extend the service span of equipment.

The focus of the seminar will in particular be the handling of coal bunkers. This is not only a matter of achieving good wear properties but also a trouble-free material flow must be ensured. Finally, one of the major requirements of coal handling is to avoid ignition and burning.

The seminar will be rounded off by an evening program with sightseeing activities and an evening meal in a restaurant tied to a brewery located in the old part of the city of Cologne.

The Neurath power plant of RWE will be visited the next day. Those responsible will report on extension of the power plant activities west of Cologne and on the nearby lignite mining sites. In addition, the power plant itself will be toured and on that occasion time-proven measures be presented that ensure trouble-free operation. The solutions adopted for the different power plant sections will be discussed in detail in the course of lectures.

Evening Event (Day 1) and Tour of RWE Power Plant Neurath (Day 2)

To round off the first conference day, Haus der Technik invites you to join us for an evening event- a guided tour of the historical quarter of Cologne followed up by a dinner at the brewery “Malzmühle” (starting at about 19:30).

On Friday we start from Cologne to RWE Power Plant Neurath: the tour is followed up by 3 lectures: wear protection solutions.

Group of Participants

Engineers specialized in process and plant engineering and working in all sections of the coal-industry and in power plants . In view of comparable problems existing in bulk material handling in other industries, such as the chemical industry, in mining, the cement industry, the iron and steel industry, mineral recovery and processing, production engineers and plant operators of these branches are addressed as well. The conference and the topics to be discussed will in general be of interest to wear protection experts, material scientists, material testers, etc.
