The various elaborate descriptions cry for drawings and photos that show exactly what is being described.

Hi Joe,

You are so right. It is relatively easy to attach drawings and photos. And if someone has problems, contact me and I will try to help with uploading.

Training or tracking the belt on your radial stacker or conveyor system is a process of adjusting idlers, pulleys and loading conditions in a manner which will correct any tendency of the belt to run other than centrally. When all portions of a belt run off through a part of the conveyor length, the cause is probably in the alignment or leveling of the radial stacker or conveyor structures, idlers or pulleys in that area.If one or more portions of the belt run off at all points along the conveyor, the cause is more likely in the belt itself, in the splices or in the loading of the belt connveyor. When the belt is loaded off-center, the center of gravity of the load tends to find the center of the troughing idlers, thus leading the belt off on its lightly loaded edge.

I would like to add some points and disagree with one particular point.

Adjusting pulleys should be off limits as a means of training a conveyor belt. Crowning and lagging non-drive crowned pulleys is effective in belt training but pulleys should always be level and square with the belt line. Skewing pulleys to train the belt puts damaging edge stresses on the belt. This is detrimental, unlike the gentle frictional urging of skewing the idlers to train the belt.

Final training of a new belt should be after four to eight hours of run-in time.

Misalignment at a given point is due to an upstream cause and the training adjustment for this should begin upstream from the misalignment point.

Hi Joe

You are wasting your valuable time replying to uchconveyor or conveyor01 (same person). This person is a spammer from China that simply C&P's another article (most time not even relevant to the thread) and then adds embedded links to their website in the post. Then one of us must edit the post and remove the links.

I believe Reinhard already banned conveyor01. It may be time to ban uchconveyor. I have given him/her numerous warnings to stop.

Have a good day Joe.

It is interesting to see spamers using our stuff, that is a new one. Yes, we do have a Tracker, and it is shown here. The main difference between it and alignment idlers is the fact that the belt wander sensor is downstream and it is set on a linkage so that a small amount of wander will rotate the steering idler a great deal. This allows a quicker response.

The actual product can be seen here.

I actually like to spend more of my time fixing the problems that cause mistracking in the first place. There are numerous things that can go wrong with a belt, and if those are fixed, the belt runs more true and the trackers do not have to work unless there is an upset.

There are many great clues to the causes of your mistracking issue in Chapter 16 of the Foundations book. You can either download a pdf or request a hard copy.
