Celsius Lime heater for Interfaceflor

The American InterfaceFLOR is the company when it comes to being a forerunner in durable responsible design and production of multi-functional and efficient modular floor concepts.

Celsius has been commissioned by the European main office in Scherpenzeel for the delivery of a lime heater. This heater will have to heat 13000 kg (!!) lime per hour or will have to heat from 10 °C to 130 °C by means of thermal oil with a temperature of 220 °C. The lime has to be heated to be able to mix it with bitumen to eventually serve as a basis for the “bottom part of carpet tiles”.

Interface, Inc. ( NASDAQ: IFSIA ) is world leader in the production of durable carpet tiles and offers its clients the possibility to choose for climate neutral floor carpeting within the concept Cool Carpet®.

In Europe, InterfaceFLOR has factories in Craigavon (North-Ireland) Halifax (United Kingdom) and Scherpenzeel (the Netherlands). Furthermore, the company has sales offices in most large cities. Carpet tiles for the domestic market are available under the brand ‘Heuga Home Flooring’.

InterfaceFlor is a progressive company when it comes to durable production. The EcoMetrics™-2006 rapport of InterfaceFLOR - worldwide market leader in durable carpet tiles – shows that ‘Mission Zero’ is doing well: the ambition of the company to be able to completely operate in a sustainable way and to minimize the ecological footprint of the company in 2020. The rapport shows a significant reduction of the emission of greenhouse gasses, waste and energy use. Furthermore, InterfaceFLOR makes even more use of sustainable energy.

Ray Anderson, the international director and founder of Interface, Inc., states that the objective is for his company to be operating environmental neutral in 2020. With this objective in mind, he says he aims for, among others, a greenhouse gas reduction of 6,7% per year for the next fifteen years. InterfaceFLOR achieved this reduction because of additional efficiency of the production process (37%). The use of the Celsius chalk heater fits with this functional company operation.

Lindsey Parnell, the European director of InterfaceFLOR: “With InterfaceFLOR, we concentrate ourselves on the environment, on the social environment and we see to positive company results. In part, this can be done by the compensation of our CO2 emission, but we prefer to realise actual reduction by process improvements and more efficient use of energy in the production locations”

Another important step in InterfaceFLOR’s ‘Mission Zero’ is the reduction of the worldwide energy use to an absolute minimum while maintaining the production increase and turnover. This challenge was also successful last year: the international energy use of the company has decreased by 45%, while the production has increased.

In The Netherlands, the production in Scherpenzeel runs completely on sustainable electricity, just like at seven other locations in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. One also makes use of other sustainable energy sources, like solar panels on the building in Scherpenzeel.
