Cooperation agreement between Buhler and Aveka

Uzwil, February 28, 2008 – Buhler and Aveka have teamed up to operate a new shared develop-ment and demonstration laboratory in North America for wet grinding and dispersion applica-tions.

Buhler Inc., Plymouth, MN, the American affiliate of the Buhler Technology Group, and Aveka Inc., Woodbury, MN, a company specializing in particle technology, have signed an agreement on the joint operation of a development and demonstration laboratory. Its purpose will be to offer North American customers active in the fields of wet grinding and dispersion technology a high level of competent on-site support. In this cooperation, Buhler will make the complete product portfolio of the Grinding & Dispersion busi-ness unit available for test activities including its new PML-2 universal laboratory platform and its latest MicroMedia micro-grinding-media technology for nanogrinding applications. Aveka will utilize this cooperation to make its extensive capabilities in particle measurement techniques, process engineering, and contract manufacturing accessible to Buhler customers. The shared engineering laboratory operated by the two companies will be set up on the Aveka premises in Woodbury, MN, and will be ready for service in March 2008. In a separate building section, a complete infrastructure will be available, including – among other things – facilities for material logistics, meeting rooms, and analytical labs.

This cooperation will enable the two partners to offer their customers an even wider range of process equipment, services and even more expert capabilities than previously available. In addition to the existing applications in printing inks, coatings, and products for the electronics industry, one of the main goals is to develop new markets for ink-jet and nanodispersion materials. For the future, Buhler and Aveka expect additional synergies to be generated by the combination of joint capabilities and compe-tencies.

The new engineering laboratory will be operated jointly on the basis of precisely defined work and allocation schedules. Development and demonstration tests can be booked with immediate effect through Aveka and Buhler.
