SBM wins HOLCIM contracts

Re-engineering and new construction of aggregate processing at HOLCIM Granulats in Belgium

Parts of the mineral processing plant are being reconstructed for one of the largest quarries in Europe, the limestone quarry CARRIERE DU MILIEU, which belongs to the global HOLCIM group.

This large-scale project was advertised in detailed tender by HOLCIM in an extensive, multiple-year preparation phase. Supplies of machines and equipment for limestone processing were divided into 3 main categories and went to SBM Mineral Processing GmbH, Laakirchen, Austria, following extensive talks.

Phase 1 "PROCESS LAVE"

This is where pre-screened material 0/40 mm is processed. The infeed performance is 405 t/h. The heavily soiled material is processed using a log washer, selectively crushed in 2 type SBM MULTIPACTOR V22 vertical-shaft impact crushers and wet screened to sizes 0/2, 2/4, 4/6.3, 6.3/10, 10/14 and 14/20 mm.

The contract was assigned at the end of the first quarter of 2006, and commissioning is scheduled for February 2007.

Phase 2 "TRANSPORTEURS PROCESS LAVE"

The 0/40 mm material is removed from a roofed holding area on dosing feeders and is fed to the 1st screening machine for wet processing. The final products from the wet processing plant (see above) are transferred to existing silos.

Commissioning of this part of the total facility is already completed.

Phase 3 "PROCESS SEC"

The material, pre-crushed by the existing primary reduction crusher 40/250 (500) mm, is fed to each of the lines of the secondary and tertiary crushing equipment via a buffer silo with a capacity of 2 x 470 t/h. The total capacity without a closed loop thus amounts to 940 t/h. The secondary crushing system comprises 2 type H 6800 cone crushers. Following this 0/4 mm sand is screened off as a final product.

Grain sizes up to 40 mm are fed to the 2-line tertiary crusher via buffer silos; the tertiary crusher system again comprises 2 type H 6800 cone crushers and 2 MERLIN type vertical-shaft impact crushers for grain-shape optimization.

The final products 0/2, 2/4, 4/6.3, 6.3/10, 10/14 and 14/20 mm are screened on 2 screening lines with 3 twin-deck screening machines each. If overproduction of individual grain sizes occurs, they can be remilled "online".

The contract for the main part of the project was assigned in August 2006 and commissioning is scheduled for the early in 2008.
