I need to carry Crystal salt with a bulk density of 0.9kg/cc.Conveyor length is 3.25metres.Inclination is 15deg.Belt width is 600mm.Moisture of the crystal salt is 4 to 6%.

I need to calculate the

1.Belt speed to deliver a quantity of 5mt/hr of salt.

2.Motor hp and rpm to be selected

3.Gearbox reduction ratio.

Assuming you are not using this conveyor as a belt feeder, you could turn the conveyor by hand.

As such, a fractional kW geared motor will do the job... Personally, I can't think smaller than .75kW

Use a light belt with 250mm pulleys with ratio 20:1.

600mm wide is an overkill so use 500mm wide maximum.

Use good corrosion protection so your nice little conveyor doesn't rapidly dissove and go back to nature.

Regards (and don't put too much salt on your chips...bad for the blood pressure..)

Dear Mr. pppgroup,

Earlier respondent has already give certain useful information. I would like to mention the following :

- You have got only 3.25 m long conveyor, which is a very short conveyor. It would not be necessary to use trough profile for carrying run of such short conveyor, because flat to trough and trough to flat itself might take major portion of length.

- Also you need some length of skirt board at feeding zone.

- The belt width is more compared to the required tonnage, but one cannot have a lesser belt width than 400 or 500 mm.

- You may investigate the use of flat belt conveyor with skirt board on both the sides from feeding point to discharge point.

- In case the material happens to be corrosive, then use appropriate material for construction.

Well with my 29 years of experience in the salt production world.

I would use a 316 Stainless Steel single flight screw conveyor for that short of a distance and that low tonnage.

Look for a book called Screw Conveyor 101 - it has all the formulas you need.

Good point Gary..

But would an SS316 job not be somewhat of an expensive screw, in comparison to conventional belt?

I am commissioning a tiny conveyor like his one right now. It is so simple it didn't cost much at all.

I wonder..

316 stands up the best to salt in both corrosion and abrasion.

304 would be my 2nd option.

Yes the price of stainless is getting outrages and may not be a viable option.

If you go with a conveyor and are concerned about corrosion I would highly recommend specifying a coal tar epoxy coating on all components.

Here is a good product that I use and have had great success with it.

The critical step in any epoxy coating is a very good sand blasting.

sroy...

I had no luck with your website so far.

Can you qualify what you mean "Non Contact Belt Weigher from K-Tek" a little bit please, and how it applies with this thread.

Thanks

I got the web site and its a "Two Dimensional Laser Scanner

for Non-Contact Volumetric Measurement of Belt Conveyed Materials".

How it applies to this thread, not at all!

Just "puffing" the product.
