Clamping screen mats

We are utilising a urethane screen mat in the bottom deck of our scalping screens. Currently they are clamped into place with the use of a internal clamp bar and externally tensioned nuts on the clamp bar bolts. We have had these come loose as it is not practical to retension the bolts on a regular basis. Has anyone seen other methods for retaining screen mats that does not require regular retension.

Thanks

Brian

Tensioning Of Clamping Rails Or Bars

Erstellt am 21. Mar. 2007 - 02:59

on the external parts:

Firstly, the reason for retensioning in the first place ..especially for wirecloth.....is the woven wire tends to loosen after first 8 hr shift and needs another 1/4 turn normally to tighten right up. Of course, if loose....the wire will prematurely BREAK.

......................

On urethane....if using normal tension rails internally to stretch over a camber.....(I assume a camber but, may be flat?) if is very critical to HOLD TIGHT to support rails to avoid ripping the urethane.

......................

Internally, people quite often USE T-BOLTS, or J-BOLTS throughout the deck area to HOLD the urethane tightly to the deck after it has been tensioned. If left to SLAP loosely...it can and does at times CRACK the support frames below it.

........................

EXTERNALLY.........double nutting is typically done to avoid LOOSENING OFF of the nuts. Can go to NATIONAL FINE threaded bolts and nuts.....less likely to back off, tighter fit, XL vs coarse.

Can go to WEDGE assemblies.....NO NUTS, NO BOLTS, and the wedges tap into a special carriage BOLT, and HALF moon shaped washer AND the friction fit tight as heck. Easy to remove also.

NO RETENSIONING REQUIRED AT ALL.

pic of another method used by end users.

Here you will see..

- National fine thread bolt

- National fine thread nuts

- Flat washer at the sideplate position

- Lock washer next to flat washer

- pic of this setup from the field

............

Another setup is:

- coarse thread bolt

- coarse thread NYLOC nut

- another NYLOC NUT (double nutted to stop from loosening)
