Hi all.

I´ve been calculate convex curve radius at many formulae.

In all of them, the curve radius decreases when belt tension increases. This really happen? Why?

Convex Curve Radii

When convex curve radii for regular belt conveyors are calculated, two criteria have to be considered:

1. Buckling (centre of belt)

2. Elongation (edge of the belt)

The higher the belt tension, the lower the buckling criterion has to considered, but edge elongation could become critical.

My advice: contact the belt manufacturer and / or refer to the contitech formulae in the conveyor belt serrvice manual.

Best regards,

Its very curious that you can apply many formulae for sizing a convex vertical curve radius. As Axel states, there are normally two criteria used by most designers in selecting convex vertical curve radii. Only one decreases the radius with increased belt tension, if and only if, the belt center tension is negative or, in a state of buckling, in the initial analysis.

Do you know which crieria you are evaluating? It should be obvious when applying conventional procedures Is there yet another procedure which differs from either belt center buckling or edge stress? If so, please give the reference.
