Lubrication on vibrating screens:

When travelling around troubleshooting bearing problems on vibrating screens we typically discover the type of grease used is QUITE OFTEN not as recommended by the manufacturer.

A simple thing, but very IMPORTANT. Most greases used on vibrating screens is EP rated? EXTREME PRESSURE rated for vibrating screen duty. I quite often discover in my travels that a MP or MOLYPURPOSE grease gets substitued........Why? It is easier to use for more applications is thee thinking. OF course, all greasing applications are not EQUAL.

ONE GREASE............lubes all jobs........right? WRONG.

for example: EP2...........extreme pressure rated 2.....is for average ambient temperature typically operating in....like an EP2 WOULD be good for 70-90 deg F range outside temp.

.......................................

EXAMPLE: I had a customer who had ZERO problems with bearings or high bearing operating temperatures for 4 years. The phone rings and their vibrating mechanism is HOWLING....a sure sign of bearing trouble. Upon site visit.....the HOWLING was easy to diagnose........I asked....anything changed at all? The answer of course was NO. Hummmmmmmmm.......

I asked to see the grease tubes being used........and the label said HIGH TACKINESS, flush out proof, STICKY, and NO mention of EP rating at all. THIS was fifth wheel grease for transport trucks.

I asked the typical question.........You could not have been using this for the last 4 years.........and the answer was they changed about 6 weeks earlier. CHEAPER PRICE and salesman said it was a cross related, NO PROBLEM ........That small savings resulted in a EXTRA COST of about $10,000.xx for new tube assembly, brg housings and service call.

BEWARE of using the wrong grease......it can be very COSTLY.

Good Vibrations to all of our BULK a HOLICS.......George B

EP 1 OR EP 0 would be progressively colder climates.
