Dear Mr. Agarwal,

It seems you are the right guy to help me. My customer has an inquiry of conveyor belt or blow pot. My company wants to supply that kind of product, but I am not familiar with the product. Perhaps you could help me inform some companies which are making that product.

I have make a new thread on general forum, but nobody comes to me yet.

Your reply is highly appreciated.

The article is good for first hand calculations, but the excel sheet should have another variable, i.e,

decreasing temperature, in ash handling the fly ash from ESP is at 150 DEG C temperature, but as the pipes are not insulated, thus there will be loss of heat along the length, while using the excel sheet, in the temperature column I incorporsted the formula for heat loss to get the temperature after each section, then it gives more refined result.

Dear tathadream,

Your observation of the influence of the temperature on pneumatic conveying is just one of the many complicated physical aspects.

Here some other issues to account for:

-Air temperature + material temperature result in mixture temperature

-Material friction losses increase the mixture temperature

-Expansion of the air decreases the mixture temperature

-Heat exchange with the surroundings changes the temperature (as you noticed)

-Material friction decreases the particle velocity

-Difference in energy for keeping the material in suspension horizontally versus vertically.

-Automatic calculation of different compressor type performance, temperatures , rotary lock losses, energy demand per installation part (pipe section, bend, filter) and capacity rates at various pressures.

-Automatic calculation of different compressor type performance, temperatures , rotary lock losses, energy demand per installation part (pipe section, bend, filter) and pressure drops at various capacity rates.

-Automatic calculation of different compressor type performance, temperatures, rotary lock losses, energy demand per installation part (pipe section, bend, filter) and the product loss factor at various pressures and capacity rates.

-Calculation accuracy in respect to air expansion requires the calculation of short pipe sections or calculations with a small time interval

-Velocity loss in a bend rather than assuming an equivalent length.

-altitude corrections

-Material pneumatic conveying properties, s.a. product loss factor (formula) must be equal for vacuum conveying and pressure conveying.

-System capacity calculation, where kettle pressurizing time and pipeline purging time are accounted for.

-etc.

If these issues are incorporated in the product loss factor K, then the calculated results can differ quite dramatically from reality, as installations differ from each other.

Therefore, always be alert of the reliability of pneumatic conveying calculations.

take care

Dear teus,

I fully agree with your observations,

That is why what I was doing is for existing similar fly ash conveying systems in which only mass flow rate of ash was different as layout wise almost all the similar capacity power plant are similar in ESP area, I was putting the values of known systems into the excel sheet and trying to obtain actual vacuum pump rating by changing the friction factor K and found that K is varying within a very small range and we can take a mean value of K and also incorporating the temperature drop in the proposed excel sheet as per the attached file I am getting a acceptable value.
