Gate for iron pellets

Hi,

I need a diverter gate that can feed some 3/8'' iron pellets in one or the other direction or in both direction at the same time. I've seen in other posts that a bucket gate could be what I need but I can't find any information or drawings of that kind of gate. Could any of you provide me some manufacturer of that kind of gate or with more information that could help me find out if it's the perfect gate for my needs.

Until now the only gate that seems to answer my need is a Pebco rolling blade diverter

Is there any other manufacturers that build something like that?

Thanks

Sbastien Jacques

We manufacture diverters valves in numerous constructions including mild steel, cast aluminum and cast stainless steel. Your application is a bit uncommon since the material is highly abrasive, however designed correctly (with A/R plate steel internally), you should be fine.

Are you pneumatically conveying the iron pellets or it a gravity application?

It's a gravity application

the flow rate is around 330 metric ton/hour

and the gate must be actuated hydraulically

Wear

My experience is based on handling 5 million tons per year of iron ore pellets and lump ore.

Depends on how many tons you plan to handle but pellets are highly abrasive.

Anything offered without hard surfacing is a waste of time & money.

Weld overlay or specially perpared materials are both used at different locations.

In the event the pellets can get between the diverter and the side wall you must have adequate power on the gate to crush this material - it goes without saying that the unit must be built adequately strong to take the abuse.

An added comment on Russ's points:

The best recommendation should include the feed behavior to the gate, degradation in the gate, and what you propose after the gate. Flow control to and from the gate may allow an improved gate flow, dust control and liner life design. You may consider a total engineered concept where the goal is to minimize damage to the product, control dust emissions, guaranty flow and minimize total cost of capital and operations factored as a sum over the plant life.

We design flow control gates as a part of total chute geometry recommendations. Our Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) tools can give reasonably accurate flow, dust, wear and degradation indices. Visit our website for an overview on these comments.

Abrasion

Erstellt am 20. Jan. 2005 - 05:38

In handling iron ore where there is abrasion there is also degradation of the pellets/lump.

The comment about the total chute/system configuration is correct.

We are at present spending substantial sums of money replacing systems installed when the plants were built to reduce handling and damage to the ore.

A 1% loss (fines generation) costs us something like 2.5 million dollars per year in our case - this is well worth avoiding.
