You can do it with a line camera. You need to create a tin flow curtain with good background ilumination.

The efficiency of the process depends on the size of the particule and on the space you have after the camera to redirect the non conforming product.

we can provide systems/instruments to inspect powders and slurries for impurities or specks(dark or light coloured) , so although a bit late the requirement posted in 2003 can now be resolved very easily.. ■

My manufacturing facility produces about 200 to 300 MT per month of powders and granules of various pharmaceutical API's. Recently I had a problem with one of our products. Our client found that one shipment had a few human hairs. Using a CCD based system would have minimised this incident. I am interested in a commercial application which can detect and remove contaminants and foreign particles including human hairs automatically. The machine should have a capacity to process about 200 to 400 kg per hour.
