Much of the early applications of Mass Flow technology was directed to the reliability of coal silos by the, then, CEGB and British Steel. Walker developed his annular shear cell for this purpose at Portishead and Herbert Wilkingson, of British Steel Research, transformed the reliability of coal handling in the steel industries from the late 60's onwards.
