Hi all,

Even if i am using proper clip to match specified thickness of belt, Is it a good idea to remove bottom cover rubber, while making clip joints with R5, R5.5 Flexco clips? If not, can anyone advice on right way of doing it !!!

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Dev Challa

Suggest you contact Flexco and discuss your specific application.

General advice:

How would the conveyor belt cleaners deal with the mechanical fasteners if you dont skive (the top cover in particular cf the bottom cover you have mentioned)?

Hi Lyle,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we use the belt groover to remove the top cover to adjust the clip height, so that clip will not come in contact with scrapers. We did hundreds of clip joints without any problems, where we never removed bottom cover.

Our client requested us to make a clip joint instead of regular hot splice, as they can't afford breakdown for more than 2 hours, with one particular system 20m long 1200mm wide 3PN CFW 13/5 covers. After we started clip joints, the clip is breaking from the bottom, almost every week.Last 3 weeks, we did 2 reclips on the same belt till now.Thats why i want to know, is it a good idea to remove bottom cover completely or partially!! We checked the system thoroughly for any entrapment and everything looked fine.Pulley diameters were fine. Instead of doing the trail and error, i want to check with experts, whether we can remove bottom cover completely, as i am afraid the clip may tear the plies!!

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Hi Lyle,

Thanks for the link. But, I am talking about R5.5 Clips, not 2E,2.5E or 2.25E clips.

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Dev Challa

Far from an expert, though the link supplied earlier suggests skiving.

Have no evidence to support, though would suggest more direct is better.

Suggest again, you contact Flexco and discuss your application (i.e. are the fasteners suitable for the actual belt strength etc).

Regards,

Lyle

If you are breaking clips it sounds like your pulley diameters may be too small for the type of clips you are using.

As Lyle suggests your best advise is to contact Flexco and have them advise you. They would even come to inspect your system for the proper clips to use. Ask them to do a complete survey of all your system and create a chart of recommended clips for each conveyor. This should be a complimentary service at no charge in most cases.
