Dear pandaba,
To calculate the mass flow of material (SLR * mass flow of air), it is required to know the absolute pressure and temperature in the pipe to calculate the air mass flow (air mass flow = Pipe area * air velocity * air density)
Knowing the air mass flow, the material mass flow is calculated.
The material mass flow divided by the material density is the material volume flow.
The volume fraction of the particles is then calculated as the ratio between the material volume flow divided by the air volume flow in the pipe section.

Calculating Volume Fraction & Velocity of Solid
In pneumatic conveying in a pipe , the following data exists:
pipe diameter : 100mm
particle dia : 100 micrometer
SLR : 0.5
Mean gas velocity : 15
Particle density : 2650 kg/m3
pipe length : 1 m
Can anybody tell me what is the particle residence time , particle velocity at inlet and volume fraction of the particles. ■
