Conveying System at Keystone Cement

During 2008, Sthim America LLC has developed a total of seven projects in the USA. With these projects the company, started in 2007, strengthen its presence in the US cement market and reinforce its position as a leading supplier in the bulk material solutions.

One of the most remarkable projects has been all the conveying system in the new project of Keystone Cement Company.

On January 2006 Keystone cement announced a $165 million modernization project at its Bath, Pennsylvania facility. With this project Keystone was increasing its production and its energy efficiency in the new facility by replacing its two wet-process kilns with a single dry preheater and precalciner kiln. A 5000 hp ball mill and two 20000 ton clinker silos have been also installed.

The contract for the finish grinding circuit was win by Polysius-USA, Inc, and the contract for the kiln, cooler and blend silo was win by FLSmidth.

Sthim America LLC has worked with these two companies, supplying the engineering and manufacturing all the pan conveyors, bucket elevators and belt conveyors of the two projects. Moreover, Sthim America has contracted directly with Keystone Cement the quarry conveyors.

In all the projects Sthim America has developed the engineering for the support structures, manufacturing them in the US and outside. In this way, the company has converted in one of the leading companies in turn-key conveying solutions.

The first part of this Project was the supply of all the conveying system from the clinker silo to the cement mill in the new line In this part eight belt conveyors has been supplied included all the steel structures and two transfer towers. The engineering has been specially complicated due to the presence of existing installations. Two pan conveyors from the kiln and two chain conveyors were supplied to feed the clinker silos from the kiln. Another tour belt conveyors were supplied for feed the existing cement silos.

The second part was the supply of the conveying system from the raw mill to the kiln: Two chain elevators, two belt conveyors and three belt conveyors. It is important to mention the more than 300 feet of height of one of the elevators, feeding the preheating tower.

In a third part, actually being installed, Sthim America LLC has supplied all the conveyors from the primary crusher to the raw mill. Especially important has been the engineering of a belt conveyor of xxx feet that cross the road, and cross all the existing facility.
