Adequate earthing and dust extraction seem like a good start. ■
Re: Explosion Protection Using Big Bags
Chilworth Technology (Chilworth.co.uk) have some information on their websites in relation to FIBCs. Also PD CLC /TR 50404, 2003 Code of Practice for the Avoidance of Hazards from Static Electricity ■
Iec 61340-4-4
Standard IEC 61340-4-4 contains requirements for design and testing of flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs or 'big bags') used in hazardous atmospheres ■
Clc/Tr 50404
The atmospheres explosive in this situation are not preventable (if exist a fraction of dust with diameter less of 500 micron). If you want apply the 99/92/CE directive you must prevent the sources of ignition.
In particular, it is necessary to prevent electrostatic charging by adopting FIBC comply with CLC / TR 50404

Explosion protection using big bags
We are involved in a couple of projects were starch and sugar are filled into their silos using big bags. Any ideas on how to protect from explosions in these applications? ■
