I don't know if it's what you are getting at, but the old Goodyear blue book defines and uses "gravitational forces" on page 6.23 and onwards

Basically you have Fga which is the net accelerating gravitational force component like for a regenerative conveyor (after you have knocked off the rolling resistance), and Fgd is the net decellerating gravitational force component for a power consuming one (including the rolling resistance)

For a horizontal conveyor, Fdg is the rolling resistance

If you have an undulating conveyor, you have a selection of both, and the net value of the plusses and the minuses gives you the overall gravitational force which equates to the effective tension Te, (which of course when multiplied by the belt speed give you the power).

Also, by proportioning the net effective gravitational force to each section of the conveyor pro-rata to the effective mass of each section, you can work out the tension distribution around the conveyor belt.
