For trough conveyors, assuming you are talking about initial construction:

Sandvik (nee Prok) have a proprietary system. There may be others.

A surveyor is your friend.

Jigs for alignment may be useful.

String lines and dumpy levels may be of use also.

Even if you get the structure right, you need to keep observation of the idlers within the structure for alignment.

QA of the job in general.

Hi Hilmi...

I mounted a hunting rifle gun-sight on a stand which has a toes down angle iron at the bottom at 90 degrees to the scope.

By putting the angle iron on the central idler roll, (before the belt is pulled in) I simply look through the scope and adjust each idler so the vertical cross wire is exactly on the centre line of the conveyor.

I also use it for pulleys.

As a result, I can then start the conveyor and just let it run.

There is unfortunately a number of site people from the school of thought that prescribe that all idlers are installed pushed to the back of the mounting slots. They then start the conveyor and bang the offending sides of the idlers forward with a 4 lb hammer until the conveyor behaves itself a bit.

Such people should also suffer blows from a 4 lb hammer until they have some sense knocked into them.

I mentioned the Prok system which is propriety. I cannot locate anything on the internet about it, so I am not sure if it is still available, however the principle is the same.

Edit: I forgot to mention I have seen it ("Prok conveyliner" or the like) in a catalogue also, however due to an office move it is well packed away, maybe for some time.

You could make you own jigs to ensure idler alignment consistency within modules / galleries etc.
