It is difficult to give straight answer to your question however bulk cargo ships are defined into follwing categories base on its capacity



!.0 small size ships are from 5000 Dwt to 10000 dwt there length varies from 95 to 107 m ,there width varies from 16-18 m there total population is 17 percent these are not very less used for bulk cargo

2.0 Handy size ships are from !0000 Dwt to 30000 dwt there length varies from 117 to 170 m ,there width varies from 23.3-27m there total population is 17 percent.

3.0 Handmax size ships are from 35000 Dwt to 55000 dwt there length varies from 170 to 185 m ,there width varies from 28-30 m there total population is 32percent.

this size is most popular

4.0 pana maxmax size ships are from 60000 Dwt to 82000 dwt there length varies from 225 to 230 m ,there width varies from 32.2 -32.3 m there total population is 24 percent

this size is also popular. Bigger than this width can not enter panama canal

5.0 cap size size ships are from 80000 Dwt to 175 dwt there length varies from 225 to 289 m , there width varies from 37-45 m there total population is 9 percent

these can not enter

6.0 VLBC ships are from 205000 Dwt to 320000 dwt there length varies from 300 to 330 m ,there width varies from 50-58 m there total population is 1 percent

it is difficult to give complete details in this forum however most size used for bulk cargo are 30000 dwt to 60000 Dwt.

most of the bulk cargo jettys are suitable up to handling 250 m long ships
