Pushing the designing envelope

Dear everybody,

I need to design a short (20ft) conveyor to work with my digging machine, to move dirt/earth away. Because the space restriction, the design has to push everything to/over the limit (design guide) to meet the capacity requirement (22,000 cu ft/hr):

The parameters are:

1. belt width: 24 inches / 609mm

2. speed: 700 fpm/ 3.56m/s

3. troughing: 45 degree

4. inclination: 22 degree

5. total length: 20 ft /6m

Is this design feasible or too demanding?

I am waiting online and appreciate any suggestion/advice! Thanks.

This is not possible:

1. belt is too short to accel material to final speed up a 22 deg incline

2. you can't trough a 24 inch belt at 45 deg - at 35 deg belt is still overloaded and may not trough depending on construction.

3. Alluvial material usually has lumps which will kill the idea even if there were ways to achieve it.

There are other circumstances as well.

Why 24 inch width and such high speed? Maybe a slow speed such as 200 fpm ( 1m/s) and 54 inch width (1371mm) might get close. Other issues need to be addressed such as slope stability, influence of lumps, moisture and interface friction between belt and material.

Good Luck.

When I said not possible I was refering to you selection of conveyor specifications.

There may be a remote chance that a pocket type conveyor could be designed for this duty. However, this is a guess given the lack of information.

If a 24 inchwide belt is your space limitation, then it is not possible.

Maybe I will learn a new technique from others in this forum. I look forward to a solution as you do.

Dear Lenew,

22000 ft3/hr at 60 lb/ft3 implies around 600 tph. Mr. Nordell has already given the reply and certain information, and as stated by him, you have to select the appropriate belt width and speed.

If your inclination is very sharp, then other option is apron conveyor.

It is very difficult to give proper opinion without knowing the sufficient details and arrangement requirement in your equipment.
