Jul. 2004 - 15:59 AJAX WINS BNFL RESIDUES PROCESSING CONTRACTBritish Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL) has chosen screw conveyors from solidshandling and processing equipment specialist, Ajax Equipment for handlingresidue materials , in a contract worth £100,000.In total Ajax Equipment is supplying three screw conveyors for the transferof residue materials as part of a £22 M BNFL residues treatment project.The conveyors will be positioned in a tiered arrangement such that theyconvey and process the materials as they are transferred to a dissolvingvessel.The seven metre length Ajax screw conveyors are made of stainless steel(grade 304) with a warm water jacket and feature a 6 inch quadrant paddle screw. In order to process the residues material effectively, an acidicsolution is pumped in a contra flow to the direction of the screw. The levelof the solution is controlled by a weir gate.The conveyors are tiered such that as the material reaches the end of oneconveyor it is lifted into a chute, using a novel box scoop, and transferredto the next conveyor.
