Cement bulk handeling in iso freight containers

Posted in: , on 27. May. 2004 - 19:02

I am studying the feasibility of transporting Dry Bulk cement from the factory to the port ( 380Kms distance) then pneumaticaly convey it to the vessel at the port using 120 iso freight containers with the following constraints:-

1) The density of the Grey Portland cement will be round 1.3 Ton/m3.

2) The cement will be loaded into the iso freight container using three roof loading hatches.

3) Containers dimensions are:L:5919mm.W: 2340mm H: 2380mm.

4) Door dimensions of the containers. W: 2286mm. H: 2278mm.

5) Weight of cement to be transported is 25Metric Tons per container.

6) While discharging the cement, we have no option for tilting the container.

7) The cement needs to be pneumaticaly conveyed directly into vessel holds at a distance of 30m.at 60 degree angle in the first ten metres.

From the previous information can anybody advise on how to modify the existing containers at a reasonable fixed cost to be discharged efficiently taking into consideration that they are not airtight. Also a specialyzed company manufacturing this type of new containers will be a big help.

Our aim is to reach a loading rate of 3000MT per day in the vessel taking into consideration that the container will make one trip per day.

What U can do is have special containers that have a tapered end - this is the end that tips up....this is done in Australia for sites which do not complex recieval equipment. The container is tipped up and becomes a 20T silo.

I have seen the containers but have not seen the end user site setup..

If U are still keen, I could find out for U

Thanks

James

This is an ideal case o pneumatic handling of bulk material.assuming around 20 Hrs/day for handling 3000 MT cement, you will need 120 trips/day of 25 T truck. For unloading the system capacity will need around 200 T/Hr which is acievable considering the distance you have specified and dense phase pressure conveying. The container has to be air sealed with special attachments for fluidisation and air/air-ash mixture conveying from container. There has to be a set up installed at jetty/Poltoon with compressor, flexible hoses etc which will be connected with bulk tanker to drive out the cement .You may contact many companies for such container and system depending upon your place of installation. Macwber UK is probably one such. Fuller KCP is known for pneumatic handling of cement.

New Concept In Intermodal Tank Containers

Posted on 14. Jun. 2004 - 10:37

Dear Sir,

There is an intermodal (ISO) tank container (ISO-Veyor) presently on the market that allows discharge from the horizontal position using 2barg air supply. The discharge rate for cement is 25t in 25 minutes and conveying distances of 100m are possible. The technology is currently in use for the UK's largest construction project, the new Heathrow Terminal 5 project.

Please take a look on the website www.inbulktechnologies.co.uk

These units are available for capital sale or lease.

Please find attached picture of a 20' unit that can achieve a 27 tonne payload. The units are also available in 30', 40' Aluminium.

Best regards

We can offer you an inexpensive solution using standard containers. The containers need to have liners which faclitate discharge when the container is tilted at the jetty.

Please send us your e mail address so that we can communicate with you further for a quotation with drawings and specifications

Osman

I would point you in the direction of using a specialist dry bulk transportation specialist. One I have had experience with is UBC Ltd based in the UK. They have both containers and the technology to safely discharge from the container too.
