FLow from Silo - Cullet

Posted in: , on 20. Dec. 2003 - 21:45

A friend has asked me for advice in the storage of cullet {ground glass} in particular how it flows from a silo and any special measures that would be required to ensure it flows freely from the silo.

I dont have any experience with this material but thought someone here might have knowledge and experience of this product.

I believe the material is ALL sub 0.1mm {ie 0.004inch}. The material is apparently know as "cullet 100micron" ie its maximum size is 100 micromillimeters and its d50size is around 35-45 micro millimeters.

Has anyone else had experience with cullet, in particular this very fine powder form, with respect to silo flow, dense phase conveying and abrasion/wear.

Does anyone have advice or experience with this material and how it will flow from a silo.

Thanks in advance.

Cullet Bin Flow

aussie,

Undertake a test program to develop the flow properties of cullet. The testing can be contracted out or it can be done in-house with ring shear or similar test equipment.

The resulting flow test report provides a wealth of information, including the minimum opening size that will prevent an arching (non-flow) condition, and the minimum angle of the hopper section of bins that will produce mass flow (all the material moving) and prevent core flow (some material not moving). It can also provide information regarding the influence of moisture on flow properties.

This approach provides hard data based on your material exclusively. Input from experienced folks can be helpful, but unless this experience is based on a material that is identical to yours, there can be no guarantee that the flow behavior will be the same.

In general glass is harder than steel. So, steel liners may not have adequate life if the system is operating round the clock.

The glass cullet being very abrasive, it can also cause excessive wear during pneumatic conveying.

Hardness Pipe And Ellbows

Dear Aussie,

i´m not sure what you mean. You want to bring the material from silo to another plasce yes? how far is this place ?

There will be several system for using.

If you want to blow the material therefore we have a special pipe in our programmthat is inside hardness. so the resistant is much higher than from a normal pipe. We also have a special kind of elbow. in this elbow we make a polster with material inside and so you don´t get problems in this part.

We deliver this parts also to schott glas and schott boral also we use it in south africe in the mines for special hard material near diamond and have good experience.

You can lok at this products under www.bs-vertrieb.de

If you want to transport with conveying screws we have also screws with hardox for the screw.

regards

Bernd
