Conveyor belt

Hi guys

working on minesite (crusher area).

During crusher rebuild our crusher operators runout surge bins and chutes before we start rebuilding the crusher.

The way they do it is that during that process they leave belt fully loaded and stop it instead discharging fines into the screen house (which to me makes more sense). I was wandering if anyone can explain how doeas it affects belt and maybe rollers when you leave material to sit on it for hours. I have already noticed that it creates unnecessary spillage in the area.

your help is much appreciated.

regards,

ozbos

Hi Ozbos,

It should not be a problem at all unless in so doing they flood load ie overload the conveyor belt. If they do this then there are many consequences from

1) Unable to start the fully loaded belt

2) Serious spillage issues

3) Excess stress on idler bearings leading to possibe failures

4) Distorting or bending the idler frames

As Colin says this should pose no problem, give that you have a well designed installation.

Often the belt is not only used to store the crusher pocket charge but at a higher than normal x-sectional load. Again this should be no problem.

The client's design criteria should offer protection by demanding the belt x-sectional load be transportable when loaded to 100% x-section over <50 meters by having sufficient load bearing capacity within the idlers and frames. This typically provides about an additonal 70% localized belt and force capacity.

If the conveyor operates at a high speed (> 5 m/s), then the added belt sag may complicate idler and frame loading, if it is not in the design plan.

In all likelyhood, it will not be a problem and will not show up in premature idler and frame failure. Most conveyors have adequate design allowances.
