Feed Pellets Question

Posted on 5. Aug. 2005 - 10:42

Greetings Mr. Pulickan, from the soon to be frozen "Eastern Wilderness@1140 feet above sea level".

You have peaked my interest or pushed over my feed bunk as cattle feed and fodder beets are a big interest of mine.

What grains are you using to manufature your pellets?

What grinding size are you using for the grains?

What minerals are you adding, if any to the mix before extrusion?

What is the moisture content of the grains used?

Are you adding molasses before extrusion?

What size extruder press are you using?-relating to die size for pellet size only.

What is the temperature of the pellets after leaving the press?

Is there, or will there be time for the pellets to cool after extrusion?

What is the dry matter content?

What do you have for storage bins?, or is it direct to truck haulage?

How far from the extruder press to the storage, bagging station, or load out?

Are you going to bag any of your product?

What type of power do you have access to?, 480 volt three phase is best-220 volt three phase is next best. 220 volt single phase brings up the last option.

All the components have to be grounded very well to eliminate the possibilty of a static electricty related dust explosion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a preference for conveyor belt or is an auger a possibilty?- you can not leave feed in the auger as it could catch fire from spontaneos

combustion.

You can move almost anything with almost anything but you have not told us a lot.

Also and I must stress this foremost to you- you must use enclosed explosion proof motors due to the dust generated by the grains- as a foot note you should look at flour mill explosions to see what grain dust can do!!!!!! -the dust is 30 mesh or less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is probably more than you bargained for on a friday afternoon:^) I am asking all this because I have fed a lot of cattle and seen the results of fires related to feed stuffs for cattle.

please e-mail me if you have comments or questions.
