The convex radii before the concave is just a trick to shorten the tripper car (it will be approx. 30% shorter). It does not prevent that the belt is lifted off- you have to consider a device against belt lifting. ■

Hi - It is not a trick and the tripper car is not 30% shorter.
It is there to help the belt with a fully loaded case and stopping/braking (buckling case) , there are even simple pipes used as idlers right at the bottom for the worst case.
Pls search for a design paper by David Beckley - many years back - on this topic.
Thanks

Concave & Convex Radius for Tripper Cars
Dear All,
In the case of Travelling Trippers normally we take a concave radius which helps the belt to lift gragually without much uplifting of the belts from the idler roller.
But when i went through some of the Tripper cars used in Stackers I found that nearly all of the tripper cars start with the convex radius may be round 50 to 75 mts & then start with the concave radius which goes around 120 to 250 mts as per the calculations.
Can anybody tell me that how the convex radius helps in prevention of the uplifting of the belts. If so why the same is not used in the normal tripper conveyor.
Regards
