Belt Rip Detection

What is the latest on belt rip detection using the embedded loops or mesh ? Are they reliable ? Do they often give false alarms ? Are there sometimes belt problems (e.g. delamination) where the loops are inserted in the belt ? Are they cost effective ? Are the 'paino wire' type rip detectors just as effective ?

I recall quite a few users who had the loops in the belts - but abandoned using the detection system - but I can't recall why ?

I would love to hear from people with experience in using these. Need to make a decision in the next week whether to buy the belt with or without them in 20km or so of belt.

Far from an expert, though fatigue failure of the loops (cause spirous trips) is often suggested.
