Blending Dry Pigments

Hi there,

following task:

We like to custom blend dry pigments (iron oxides) in batches of 25 - 100lbs.

We will use four different pigments (2 reds, 1 yellow, 1 black).

The blending has to be very efficient so that we get a homogeneous mixture without any lumps.

The blender mustn't have any dead zones and should easily be cleaned for the next batch.

The discharge should be directly into a hopper which is situated underneath the blender for dosing/packing into jars.

Plow Mixers or Ribbon Mixers would be the most effiecient mixers, but they have disadvantages in discharging and cleaning.

Cone blenders would be very good in regard of operating with different filling levels, cleaning and discharging, but they don't create enough shear forces.

V-blenders with intenisfiers can be a solution. We also think about a design with a Cylinder with an iris valve as the bottom and blade mixer(s) entering from the top. There we could discharge over the complete diameter and have very agressive mixers.

Iron Oxides are very fine and so it is always a very dusty job and everything has to be sealed very good.

Has anybody experience in dry pigments blending and could give us some advices? I am also interested to dicuss this task with suppliers for valves, mixers, blenders etc.

Looking forward to get some ideas from you.

Thanks

Joe
