Re: Limiting Speed Of Step Angle Conveyor
This is right out of kindergarten isn't it?
The maximum conveying velocity is what the book, or manual, says it is for that material on that belt at that angle.
Trade secrets should never be entertained, they prevent comparison! ■

Limiting Speed Of Step Angle Conveyor
Dear Mr. Jhongeteley,
Thanks for your reply. In trough belt conveyor we can select 3.0 m/s for coal application. But in step angle conveyor it should not be more than 2.0 m/sec. For transporting any material it should not be more than 2.om/sec. Is it correct ?

Re: Limiting Speed Of Step Angle Conveyor
Dear John,
I read with interest your comment on using only the "manual". A paraphrase: " applications should not be considered when they do not conform because they prevent comparison".
Can you give clarity to this comment? My confusion leads me to believe:
You are keen to only evaluate ideas/methods/installations from the history book for the sake of comparing manpower or profit? What about safety, reliability, function, ...., when the manual does not give clarity today???
Winner is the one who offers minimum profit. All equipment, design functions, et al should be equal and according to the manual??
Modern concepts have no position in your philososphy, if they have not been manualized?
If I get your meaning (pun, if deserved), might your philosophy quash ideas and invention, incentive, superior capability?
I have seen such philosophy. I avoid its association like the plague. Among the issues, it seems: a) the evaluator is incompetent to make the evaluation, b) is in an extreme hurry to render a decision, c) is only interested in minimizing anothers profit.
Why do we have this forum, if not to inform, advance, compare differences and the possibility of learning from better ideas rather than read an antiquated manual?
I vote to know the manual, not to manualize, except to have a benchmark for comparison. ■
Limiting Speed
Dear Mr. Jhongateley,
Always book/ mannual is not the all. If so, then why we should take a help from Mr. Nordell. If you find my reply, it is always very positive.

Re: Limiting Speed Of Step Angle Conveyor
Why there is is speed limit of 2 mps on steep angle conveyors. Is it to limit spillage or it has any relation with belt and sidewall life ?

To add to johns comments you also need to consider the maximum angle allowable to eliminate the possibility of roll back of the ore in question which is easily found in current literature as for example run of mine rock salt salt( minus six inches) or crushed and screened rock salt minus one inch will tolerate a 21 degree angle of ascent. ■
Limiting Speed Of Steep Angle Conveyor
The cited 2 m/s limit on speed probably applies to pocket belts. No such limit applies to sandwich belt high-angle conveyors. These are governed by the same speed rules as troughed belt conveyors. Many installations have featured belt speeds between 5 and 6 m/s.

Actual Running Rate
Dear all,
according to the actual running speed for the steep angle conveying, generally between 1.0-2.0 m/s, it's according to the conveying material and the belt itself. For high tensile belt especially for steel cord steep angle conveyor belt ,the running speed can up to 3.0m/s even more higher.
For reference.

Limiting Speed Of Steep Angle Conveyor
In the early eighties the speeds of pocket belt installations were strictly limited. Speeds beyond 2.5 m/s were unknown. Later, higher speeds along with flat covering belt arrangements were introduced to be competitive, especially in self-unloading ship applications. These systems were not very successful in practice. They ran their coarse and have been abandoned. Most pocket belt installations have now returned to the original conservative design limiting typical belt speeds to less than 2.5 m/s. Speeds higher than this are the exception not the rule.
As I mentioned previously, Dos Santos Sandwich Belt High-Angle systems are not subject to such speed limitations.
