Screen motor

New guy so sorry if this seems silly

My company has a mobile screener that has some serious motor problems.

They need replacing every 800 hours.

1 The screen is 20' x 6' 3 deck, 2 bearing, inclined, oil lubed bearing. I don't know the exact classification but it has a circular throw, an eccentric shaft and 2 flywheels. The screen runs at 950rpm and has a stroke of 10mm

2 The machine is screening limestone and seems to be running ok giving 260 tph with about 90 tph of fines.

My issue is with the screen motor it is a David Brown MC 2215 and when it fails it causes oil to leak out through the shaft.

When the broken motor is out the shaft is wobbling in the beaing.

The screen rests on a frame and the motor is on the frame it is attached via V belts. I think the motor is getting damaged by the flywheel on the shaft deflecting the motor shaft or the big pulley on the motor shaft is damaging the bearing in static conditions.

To me it is a design issue, but do the symptons sound familiar?

Motor Problems Troubleshooting

A digital pic of the motor and screen sheave area would help nicely for troubleshooting advice.

BUT, for now......my crystal ball says.....

1. ARE BELTS TOO TIGHT?

2. do you have problems keeping belts tight?

3. Is motor on a PIVOT designed base?

4. iS it pivoting...they quite often sieve up or are adjusted incorrectly causing bearing problems as a result.

5. Is motor HI torque or std torque? Hi torque for startup best.

6. When say oil is leaking at shaft, I assume it means screen shaft or is it motor shaft?

7. What oil in the screen shaft assembly, grade?

Could be many things at this stage. You reply will be helpful.

Screen Missbehavior

I agree with george we need more information. If the belts are too tight it will cause a lot of damage. Do you use a V belt tension gauge to adjust and check belt tension?

Iif the motor is out of alignment in any case it is a big no no as it will ruin the bearings on the motor in an 800 hour span.

Assuming it is dead after twenty weeks of only daily daylight operations the motor life/ death seems right with the bearing life of the electric motor if it is an electric motor that only gets greased once or twice a year with only one or two pumps each time.

I am guessing the rotor shorted out against the stator and the rest is history.

If the electric motor is not aligned period it will cause lots of stress on the motor bearing and oil seals of the screen affecting the seal lip pressure created by the spring holding tension on the oil seal if a spring is used to maintain seal pressure on the shaft.

Is the motor ment to be held in place with steel shims or jack screws and are the shims not being used? Is the motor mounting frame warped from the tension or is it possible the bolt mounting slots are shot?
