Hello Material Handling folks,

I / We are screening approximately 60 yards of dirt / clay. Can a modest vibratory machine be assembled to seperate down to a 1/4" filter without purchasing or renting a large commercial machine? I imagine a 4' x 8-12' single or multi screen bed could be constructed with a vibratory mechanism (tamper or Jackhamer) attached. In addition I will need a single pivot axis to spread material and dump large unwanted agragate. Do you think this is realistic? Any thoughts?

Screens The Stuff Of Separation

Geeetings,

Since you are dealing with a very small amount of material it would be in your best interest to rent a small diesel or gas engine powered screener that you can tow behind a pick up truck for a day and be done with it.

You will be able to get a smaller cut screen at the same time and change it out for the second pass.

weekly magazines like the heavy equipment trader will have advertising for rental house that have them.

I was also going to suggest the multiscreener2000 which is a powered wheelbarow screener that stands over a whell barrow but I do not know if you are shoveling etc.

You can find many old like this pic for very low dollars.

Don't let the rust on this baby fool you........it is still a good rig for what you want to do. Install the right wirecloth, remove the spray bars....little conveyor to get up to it.....and away.

Good to go........

Screening Dirt/ Clay

Posted on 27. Dec. 2007 - 03:19

Hello John,

My name is Francisco Oliveira and i have been in the screening industry for only over a year now but from experience, be careful when screening clay. You might be aware of this but its very hard to screen material when its wet. 1. because it becomes heavier 2. because material tends to stick together. with that said, clay would be the worse material to screen when wet. Best scenario would be to screen very dry clay. In addition, clay does not have an uniform size, therefore i will become very hard to get only clay as a final product. On the other hand if you looking to get the clay out of the dirt, you wouldnt be able to separate them 100% but you could take most of the clay out. I would recommend a 1/2" screening mat on the bottom of a 2 decker.

I'm a representative of U-Screen, Inc. Our company manufacture the toughest portable screening plant. Equipped with kubota diesel engines, our machines are 100% driven by hydraulics. For more info visit our website www.u-screen.com

Francisco Oliveira
