Are you looking for sampling at a cement plant or are you a user, i.e. ready mix operation?

In either case we can probably help.

Sampling Of Cement

Posted on 5. Apr. 2004 - 10:02

Gentlemen

The ususal way to make complete sampling in a cement plant is to place several sampling devices along the production line:

1. Before the raw material storage. (scoop sampler+ crusher+ 2 stage dividing)

2. In the raw meal line after the crusher (screw sampler+ mixer)

3. After the clinker cooler (special scoop sampler for hot material+crusher+divider)

Especially no 1 is important to ensure the quality of the raw material, before going into the production.

Sampling Cement

We offer a range of proven sampling devices for powders of all types.

These can be automatic or manually operated.

Types of sampler avaialbe are:

'Plug' type, fixed volume,

'Screw' type using a small auger, which runs for a selected time.

'Vacuum' type, which is essentailly a small vacuum chamber which 'sucks' the sample into it. Suction is for a preselected time to give the required volume or Level sensors can also be fitted and the vacuum chamber filled to a known volume.

'In line' samplers are also available.

We have a range of 'diverters' which can deposit the sample into several different collection containers if requirted.

We have systems collecting both composite and individual 'grab' samples through out batches or production runs.

Simple through to sophistictaedd sampling control systems are available. Generallly the more sophisticated controls use a PLC with MMI interface.

Cement Sampler

In a cement plant, the process control samples are usually

raw materials prepation - cross belt analyser.

raw meal prep and kiln feed - screw type sampler - watch location plus ensure that internal vacuum of transport system does not effect sample

clinker - cross sampler at transfer points

finished cement - screw sampler after cooler.

Sampling Of Cement

Posted on 10. Aug. 2005 - 02:32

Dear Sirs,

one of our swiss customers asked us for assistance regarding representative sampling of cement from departing silo tanks on trucks and trains. The samples of chromate-reduced cement (according to the new european regulatory) often showed divergencies because of the improper distribution of the reducing agent and inhomogeinity of the cement. Aparently the method of sampling was not perfect.

Therefor we have developped a system, that enables the user to take a 8 Liter representative cross-sectional sample from a silo. With the new device the sampling is done quick and accurate.

Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time.

With kindest regards,

Interleaved Sampling Protocol

Posted on 15. Jan. 2010 - 10:03

Are your sampling systems for cement designed to take a pair of interleaved primary samples during each production period? Or are all primary increments combined into a single primary sample? A pair of interleaved primary samples (A- and B-samples in ISO parlance) does give a single degree of freedom. Putting all primary increments in a single basket doesn't give a single degree of freedom. Statistical quality control and statistical grade control demand degrees of freedom. JanWMerks

Dear Jan,

This question is very important and shows that sampling is not a simple handling operation. International standards and sampling theories have to be taken into consideration.

Pierre GY (the world renowned sampling specialist) writes, “On primary sampling, bias can be up to 1,000% and up to 50% on the secondary sampling whereas they never exceed 0.1 to 1% in analysis.” The result of analysis depends on the quality of the sample. The more representative the sample is the more accurate and correct the analysis will be.

Iteca can offer both sampling solutions depending on the application.

Feel free to take a look at our article: “How to collect a representative sample”:
