Cleaning the Surface of Zircon by Ultrasonics

Posted in: , on 11. Mar. 2009 - 18:32

We are a zircon sand producer in VietNam. There is the impurity layer on the grain such as iron, therefore, I need to scrub the impurity layer of grain to upgrade the quality

I currently think about using the ultrasonic cleaning application to scrub the zircon grain, and I could add little acid if the ultrasonic power is not enough. there things is only my idea, I dont used to do this and I dont have so much experiences on the ultrasonic. can you help me? do you have any comment on my issues?

Please consider the General Kinematics Vibra-Drum Mill. We have sucessfully removed impurities from chromite sands by scrubbing the material against itself.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support

Currently, the particle size for our Zircon sand is D99 = 0.15 micrometer. Could you please kindly let me know how to separate the impurity out of zircon after the grinding mill? will our zircon sand be milled to the smaller particle size after the grinding mill?

for this I would suggest mixing the zircon sand in the General Kinematics Vibra-Drum Mill to scrub the surface of the sand particles. Depending if the iron impurity has caused a cluster of particles of zircon it may cause a smaller particle (as the clusters fall apart). If the iron oxide is only on the surface we would be able to scrub the zircon clean as zircon has a much higher Mohs Hardness than iron oxide and will scrub the surface of the particles as they interact with each other.

Seperation can be done either by water washing afterwards or if their is a large enough difference in particle size between the iron and the ziron you can air classify.

Best Regards,

Todd
