Hi!

I want to know wich instruments exist on the market to measure flow of pneumatically transported wood and peat powder.

I want to measure the fluctuations that occur during transport. The instrument has to be able to detect fluctuations in the range of 0-10 Hz.

Thanks in advance

Marcus

The easist way to measure solid mass flow rates is to put the recieving bin / hopper on load cells and then calculate the mass flow rate from the change in weight of the bin with time.

Combined Heat And Powerplant

Dear Mr Mantoo,

I want to measure the massflow of pneumatically transported powder to a combined heat and powerplant. This means that the recieveing bin cannot be continouosly weighed because the powder is burned.

The moisture content of the powder also changes and this is the reason why ordinary electrostatic techniques, microwave techniques or capacitive techniques dont work. These techniques use the dielectric constant of the flowing material and when the moisture content changes so does the dielectric constant.

This is why I am looking for another massflow measuring technique.

Marcus,

Why don't you consider using a mass flow metering device at the feed point of the conveying system? Moisture should be measured off-line and subtracted from the mass flow.

Well u have ruled out most of the conventional mass flow meters the only one left is the Laser Dopler flow meter. Unfortunately I don’t know any manufacture for it, but if u look around I am sure you will find some.

For moist powders a standard gravimetric weigh belt feeder can be used. The term 'mass flow meter' can be used for any device that measures mass flow.
