Blower Selection

I wanted to know if I should use a roots blower or cycloblower to convey PE pellets through a 6" line 10 M Horizontal and 30 M vertical with 3x 90 degree bends? Also, is there any one blower manufacturer better than another or is it all pretty much the same. The cycloblower was suggested by one of the bulk haulers.

Thanks in advance

It all depends on the size of your wallet, material moved per year or per transfer. Both regenerative and positive displacement blowers have a wide range of power curve. The positive displacement blower will have more over all air flow under work load.

From the given distances the system sounds very similar to a tanker to silo unloading system and the hauler suggestion is of using screw compressor (cyber blower) is probably based on the there experience. Most of the tractor based blower units are of this type. You have not mentioned the solids flow rate as this will be the driving force in blower selection. If you want to run your system up to 1barg then roots blower is fine anything above these pressures you are stuck with screw type.

The volumetric flow rate in roots blower do decrease with the increase in pressure but if system pressure drop is calculated accurately this decrease in air flow is taken into account at designing stage to keep the velocities in the desired range.

We are planning to use the blower to convey the material into a large vat for processing. Feed rates can vary, currently we are loading 4 T/hr manually. We want to improve that to 8-12 T/hr, 1 bar should be sufficent.

Dear Arvind,

For your application, based on your conveying rates and distances, positive displacement twin-lobe type blowers (also called Roots blowers) will be a good choice. These blowers are manufactured by several vendors. Technology has matured so much that any good and well-known manufacturer of these blowers should be acceptable for your needs. I can send more specific recommendations if you need them.

I DO AGREE WITH MR ARVIND AGGARWAL .

FOR THE SPECIFIED CONDITIONS A TWIN LOBE ROOTS TYPE BLOWER WILL BE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
