Strain-gage communication by fieldbus saves costs

HBM ’s AED system gives cost savings through the increased used of fieldbus technology in plant engineering and automation technology by enabling strain-gage transducers to be digitally connected to standard fieldbuses without any loss of information.

By using fieldbus technologies no control cabinet is required on site while the system can assume PLC control tasks. The system is supplied with integrated, electrically isolated control inputs and outputs and can be used for both static and dynamic applications.

The fully computer-controlled AED system aids plant efficiency because fieldbus interfaces cover longer distances while the industry-standard housing is installed close to the application providing a high degree of protection.

All common interfaces are supported including: the latest generation of Profibus DP V1, CANopen, and DeviceNet, as well as RS 232, RS 422, and RS 485.

The AED system uses the voltage supply common in industrial applications of 18...30 V and includes different digital filters, sampling rate adaptation, works and user characteristics, and linearization. Over 100 structured commands provide access to the strain-gage transducer or system. Specialized features include smart optimization functions and control functions required for repetitive processes, for example, in automatic scales. Service, development, start-up, and parameterization software are also available.

Latest weighing module meets legal requirements for trade with very small loads

HBM has launched the C2A weighing modules for process measurement applications and high-precision gravimetric level measurement. The weighing modules comprehensive functions include an integrated anti-liftoff device and integrated horizontal stops. An optional stay rod for the weighing system is also available from HBM.

The C2A modules are made from stainless steel and the load is introduced through pendulum bearings to give a maximum accuracy that meets legal requirements for trade up to OIML class C4 with very small loads.

The C2A weighing modules comply with WELMEC 2.4 requirements (European Cooperation in legal Metrology) and are especially well suited to high-precision applications in process measurement and level measurement.

C2A weighing modules are designed to be easy to mount reducing assembly time and costs. All C2A modules are delivered with a load cell dummy because they are often used in harsh industrial environments. This allows users to install the actual load cell only when the system is operational.

Specifications conform to the requirements of DIN 18800 as certified by independent Technical Supervisory Association (TÜV).

Latest identification plate guarantees authenticity

HBM has introduced standardized load cell identification plates to guarantee the authenticity of its products and help customers purchase with added confidence.

All relevant data is displayed on each load cell in line with OIML R60, the international construction and testing requirement. The label now includes details such as:

•Safety signs

•Type name including accuracy class

•Maximum capacity Emax

•Minimum initial load Emin

•Limit load Elim

•Minimum verification interval Vmin

•Nominal (rated) sensitivity Cn

•Test certificate number.

Customers are also supplied the relevant data in a separate document that accompanies the product. The new labels also conform to explosion protection requirements in Europe (ATEX) and in the USA (FM).

Latest single point load cells give improved speed and performance

HBM ’s new PW2/6C and PW2/6D single point load cells are the ideal single point solution for a wide range of platform scales for both static and dynamic weighing tasks because of their precision, speed, and stability.

The robust PW2C features both high precision and a small temperature coefficient for multi-range applications. The basic version of the load cells comes with a 350-mm-long 4-wire connection cable. Versions with 6m-long 6-wire connection cables are available as an option. The PW2C is used for static applications, such as shop counter or platform scales. The PW6C offers the same features and, in addition, a lower profile together with a wider range of maximum capacities.

PW2D and PW6D single point load cells are available for extremely high weighing speeds in dynamic applications. These strain gage load cells uniquely have small measurement displacement and an extremely high natural frequency. The PW2/6D are intended for different maximum capacities, platform sizes, and heights. They are available with 4-wire and 6-wire connection cables.

Latest load cell gives IP69K protection

HBM ’s PW15AH single point load cell provides IP68/IP69K protection with the combination of a hermetically sealed body and an innovative cable inlet welded to the measuring body; this construction ensures long-term stability of the strain gage installation. Made of stainless steel, the load cell is highly resistant to humidity and ambient influences allowing thorough cleaning with high-pressure steam if necessary.

The PW15AH load cells are available for measuring ranges from 0…10kg to 0…100kg. The standard version features extremely high accuracy and temperature insensitivity allowing the load cells to be used in legal-for-trade scales, for example, multi-range applications.

Designed with a flat profile, the PW15AH conforms to industrial standards for low-profile weighing systems. The load cell readily replaces less rugged models on the market because of its compatible dimensions. The load cells are off-center load compensated and are normally connected in 6-wire configurations using different cable lengths.

An explosion-proof version of the PW15AH will be launched in the near future.

Legal-for-trade weighing system meets latest type approval

HBM ’s WE2107 weighing system has been granted EC type approval for legal-for-trade industrial weighing machines. The WE2107 can be used as a single, dual or triple range weighing machine for up to 6000 divisions and comes with IP65 protection.

There are two COM ports so that the WE2107 can easily be linked to weighing systems. In addition, the system is provided with two digital control inputs and four digital PLC-compatible outputs for use as limit value switches or filling/batching control system. A 4-20 mA analog output is available for an additional analog level display or easy service access.

The WE2107 includes an integrated legal-for-trade storage device (DSD) for legal-for-trade applications and has full functionality needed for use as a non-automatic weighing device, counting scale, process control system or batching/dosing control system.

The WE2107 can either be mounted on a wall, column or desktop or it can be supplied as an extremely flat version for panel mounting or fitting in electric control cabinets.

Designed with several user levels the machine prevents unauthorized access to ensure maximum operating safety. It is fitted with automatic self-diagnosis and monitoring functions allowing any problems to be quickly identified. Parameters can be assigned either by an integrated menu or using the optional WE2107 Panel Software from HBM.

The WE2107 complies with EU directive 90/384/EEC of a Notified Body (NB) and has been EMC tested as per EN45501. It also meets the more demanding requirements of EN61326 for industrial use.
