Side Entry Agitator ES 2000

New EKATO FLUID agitator series / reliable seal / "shut-off" device allows seal maintenance and removal even with full vessel / suitable for vessel volumes up to 5,000 cubic meters.

Schopfheim, March 2009. Because the production of bioethanol is a complex and multi-stage process, operators of production plants are faced with the technical decision whether to use top entry or side entry agitators in the manufacturing process. EKATO FLUID Misch- und Dispergiertechnik GmbH has developed a side entry option and will introduce at ACHEMA 2009 a cost-efficient and technically mature solution for large volume storage tanks and applications in the area of bioethanol production.

In contrast to top entry models, the side entry agitators of type ES 2000 are installed on the vessel side near the vessel bottom with an agitator shaft that is almost horizontal. The ES 2000 permits seal maintenance and removal by using the "shut-off" device even when the vessel is full. Vessel volumes of up to 5,000 cubic meters can be handled and the investment costs for bioethanol plants considerably reduced.

Safe and reliable mechanical seal

Especially with side entry agitators, the choice of a reliable agitator seal is of special importance. EKATO FLUID is able to fall back on the extensive know-how of the EKATO Group and can optionally offer single-acting product-wetted and/or double acting mechanical seals with a seal liquid supply system. Next to the low investment costs, this fully-developed shut-off device as well as the long mechanical seals' lifetime are the most distinguished features of this series.

Years of experience with scale-up

A highly efficient, safe and reliable plant operation can be achieved by implementing a thoroughly tested scale-up that is based on the given physical sizes and clearly defined mixing tasks. Before the side entry technology is used in production scale, comprehensive tests were carried out in the EKATO test center including CFD analysis (Computational Fluid Dynamics) as well as trials in test scale and production scale. By considering the vessel geometry and based on these extensive computer simulations of flow speeds, solids concentration and particle size distribution, the specialists from Loerrach were able to define the optimum number of agitators, their positioning and the angularity of the agitators on the vessel wall in each case. The scale-up of the side entry agitators is based on the many years of experience of the EKATO Group in the area of flue gas desulfurization with coal-burning power plants where side entry agitators are used in large vessels.

Come meet the EKATO GROUP from 11 - 15 May, 2009 at the ACHEMA 2009 in Frankfurt in hall 5.0, stand B 19 - C 26
