MicroTREK: a dependable level meter

Wopfinger, the Austrian (German) company producing ready-made plasters for the Construction Industry was hunting for a dependable level transmitter to cater for its medium sized silos containing various mediums ranging from powders to various sized pellets being ingredients of the end product of the company. The final aim was a total plant control whereby the level meters were supposed to communicate their data with a centrally located computer digitally.

Trials were conducted with ultrasonics and radar level transmitters, but best cost/performance ratio was achieved by Wopfinger selecting Nivelco’s MicroTREK a contacting TDR level meter also called “guided radar”.

Highest reliability at dramatically changing conditions, robustness and ease of handling were the features anchoring Wopfinger and prompting its decision of equipping all their 26 silos with MicroTREKs at one of their plants close to Vienna. All 26 transmitters are 2-wire units communicating via HART protocol with the host computer.

Having been installed in the winter of 2003 the system is performing without a hitch for over 8 month now to the greatest satisfaction of the user. The reliable level reporting of the MicroTREKs provides for an increased plant efficiency states the end-user.
